Your guide to the desk buying process: from initial contact to installation

Buying the right furniture for your workplace can be a daunting task. Whether upgrading or setting up a whole new workspace, there are lots of decisions to make. At Technology Desking, we want you to find the best desk to suit your needs.

This guide will explain the process of buying desks for your business. We have over 30 years of experience designing and manufacturing desk furniture. So whether you need to furnish a trading floor, control room or office space, we create bespoke desks that meet your needs.

1. Free consultation

Our experts can visit site to discuss your requirements at this stage. We can help with decisions regarding the most suitable desk type and size, IT storage, desktop connectivity and monitor mounting.

You can also visit our showroom to see the desks. Here you can check out the different prices and options to see which ones best suit your requirements.

2. A questionnaire to find out your needs

We can also send you a comprehensive list of questions so we can fully understand your requirements. The questionnaire will cover topics such as your equipment needs, how many monitors you use, and desk size. Once the questionnaire is complete, Technology Desking can provide a quote. We might also create a 3D visual of the desk at this stage.

3. We create a 3D visual

Once our design team receive the brief, they can create a 3D visual of the furniture in your workspace. This visual allows you and your team to review the desk design and finishes before we manufacture it. In addition, it gives you a chance to approach us with any questions or modifications you might have.

We can send you a swatch and samples if you need help deciding what colours or materials to use.

4. Design and manufacture

After a purchase order is approved, the design process begins in earnest. First, our design team will produce a ‘shop drawing’. This technical drawing provides the measurements and specifications needed to manufacture the desk. Once the desks are manufactured, Technology Desking thoroughly check to ensure everything works properly. We do this before sending you the desks.

5. Installation

Before installation begins, Technology Desking will work with you to plan the project. A project manager can visit your site to help prepare. They will check floor access and help determine when the floor will be ready for the desk installation. Regarding the floor grommet or floor box locations we can send a flat template of the desk to site. Technology desking or the client can then place the template on the floor to mark out ideal grommet/floor box locations prior to date of install.

Our fitters are very knowledgeable about our desks and are also security cleared.

What kinds of desks does Technology Desking sell?

Control Room Consoles

  • Custom consoles tailored to your unique control room requirements. We can offer a completely custom solution or adapt one of our existing desks for you. We can sell single standalone consoles or multiple desks for an upgrade or brand new control room.

  • Flexible IT housing - Our control room desks incorporate IT storage space. We can cater for small form factor PCs right through to full 19” rack set-ups.

  • Electric height adjustment - we supply this as standard. It has ergonomic benefits for the user and helps them stay alert on long shifts. It’s also handy when you need to access equipment beneath the desk.

  • Full cable management - we integrate this into the control room console.

  • Ventilation systems - flues allow heat build-up from PCs to dissipate.

  • Single-surface consoles have one surface for both the keyboard and monitors. They provide a large usable work surface with plenty of space for equipment and can be fixed or height adjustable. If the control room console is height adjustable, it’s easy to reposition between sitting and standing. Fixed single-surface consoles provide a cost-effective solution for your control room.

  • Dual surface consoles. These will have one surface that functions as the primary workspace for users and a second surface that supports monitors. Having two desktops offers many benefits. Both are usually height adjustable which is great for ergonomics as the user can set their preferred height on each surface. A separate surface for monitors allows greater flexibility in the number of monitors supported.

Trading desks

  • Desks that can easily be reconfigured for different users - the desks use the same frame throughout, which means they can easily be adapted from full trader to trader lite.

  • Height adjustable - All desks are height adjustable with a range of control styles. Technology Desking was one of the earliest pioneers of height-adjustable furniture.

  • Designed to manage heat from PCs - flu ventilation options and in-desk fans help disperse heat generated throughout the day.

  • Plenty of IT storage - The desks have PC trolleys below, allowing you to house large processors whilst still providing legroom.

  • Designed with IT and cable management in mind - We design our trading desks to hold a high volume of cables. They discretely house power, data and AV cabling whilst maintaining a clean aesthetic. A cable management chain enables quick-release connection. We can supply desks pre-cabled with monitor looms and neatly managed power cables.

  • A sliding desktop for easy access - this gives quick access to the cable tray and sockets.

  • A dynamic technology enclosure moves up and down with the desktop, allowing for easier access. It also removes the need for bespoke cable lengths.

  • The size of PC housing can be specified for your needs, accommodating small form factors or up to two tower PCs.

Office Desks

  • Sit-stand office desks help workers stay healthy. Technology Desking use the very best in height adjustment technology. We offer a range of height adjustment controls, including Bluetooth technology.

  • Desks can be tailored to your needs. We have near-limitless dimensions, configurations and materials to choose from. Our desks can match your requirements exactly.

  • Cable management - An upper cable tray is fitted as standard.

  • Sliding work surface to access cables and sockets. All our sit-stand desks incorporate a sliding work surface free of charge, making it easy to access cables and sockets.

  • Sturdy and long-lasting - we offer warranties of up to ten years on all our desks.
