Case Study: A Bespoke Desking Solution for a Global Trading Firm
When a global trading company upgraded its offices in London, New York and Dublin, it enlisted Technology Desking to install over 1000 trading desks across the three sites. For their London base, the client required a flexible deskng solution. We developed bespoke desks mounted on heavy-duty casters, so the client could easily move them whenever they needed to reconfigure the trading floor.
Challenges:
This was a large-scale installation with over 1000 desks to install over three sites internationally
The client required desks that could be quickly repositioned as teams evolved, without compromising the stability expected within a high-performance trading environment
They requested a bespoke design with casters (wheels) for 345 of the desks at the London site
The desks needed to be strong enough to support significant technology loads, and users expect them to be stable
Solutions
Our project management team coordinated the installation of the desks across Dublin, New York and London. We shipped the desks from our UK warehouse to the three sites. We dispatched our team of fitters to each location to work with the client on the installation.
To meet the client's requirement for a highly adaptable trading floor, we developed bespoke desks with integrated casters. These meant the client could easily reposition the desks whenever they needed to reconfigure their trading floor space.
Working closely with the client throughout the design process, we created a full-scale mock-up at their operations centre to test and refine the concept. Technology Desking created a prototype of the desk design. We shared a video demonstration of it with the client to review before the physical prototype was delivered to site for hands-on evaluation.
This collaborative approach enabled the client to assess the desk's functionality in a working environment, ensuring they had confidence in the design before production began
Given the weight of multi-monitor setups and trading technology, we carefully selected casters that could withstand high loads. We designed Integrated locking mechanisms for the casters. These ensured that once in position, each desk remained stable and secure. This setup delivered the robustness of a fixed installation while providing the client with the flexibility to reconfigure the space needed.
The Result
The completed installation delivered a flexible trading floor environment that met the client’s needs without compromising the strength and stability of the desks. The bespoke caster mounted desks were easy for the client to reposition while maintaining robust support for all the equipment and tech traders use. The collaborative design and prototyping process ensured the client felt confident before manufacture, resulting in a solution that precisely met their needs.
